A crack at the Caulfield Guineas beckons for exciting three-year-old That’s The One who is undefeated after a barnstorming win at Flemington.
Snagged out to last from his wide barrier by Craig Williams, the son of Snippetson surprised even his co-trainers Cindy and Colin Alderson with a stunning win at his second race start in Saturday’s Oliver Curtis/Andrew Denadic Hcp (1410m).
“I think he has got a great future in front of him but today was another revelation. I didn’t think he could do that,” Cindy Alderson said.
“I was very impressed with him today.
“They went hard early but then they slowed it up and at the top of the straight I thought `he has to be pretty good to pick them up’.
“He just kept coming and coming and coming. It was pretty exciting stuff.”
That’s The One ($8) scored by a half-neck from Club Command ($3.50) with Jollywood ($51) two lengths away third.
At his only other start he was ridden by Danny Adam when he stormed home on a heavy track to win easily at Sandown on July 20.
Williams felt That’s The One would have been suited ridden forward on Saturday but understood the reason for his instructions to ride him back to get him to settle for bigger prizes later in his campaign.
“He has got bagfuls of ability,” Williams aid.
“He relaxed really good and his last 600 metres was pretty fast.”
That’s The One was nominated for the $1 million Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 8 this week despite him having only his first race campaign.
“He’s in the Guineas and I think we will keep him focused that way at this point,” Alderson said.
“We have to be mindful this is his first preparation and he had to learn a lot to get here … but I think we are going to see him keep improving.
“I still think his best is six months in front of him.”
